We are currently on holiday in Portugal. The whole family. I have been coming here for 28 years (gasp…) and I LOVE it here. Honestly, there’s nothing better than getting off the plane in Faro and getting the first whiff of pine trees and heather through the jet fuel fumes.
In case you haven’t been here yet I highly recommend planning your next summer holiday in the Algarve.
There’s tons of fig trees here and those sweet little delicacies are ripe by mid August. So if you happen to drive past a fig tree heavy with fruit stop the car and get picking! They are best eaten instantly. A word of warning though – beware of the white liquid that drips from the stem oft he fruit after picking. It is mega sticky and can make you itch galore.
Experienced fig eaters like myself have developed a special tecnique to avoid the sticky itchiness: when you pick the fruit make sure you twist it so the stem and a bit of skin stay on the tree. That way you can maximise your enjoyment whilst minimising undesired side effects!
Oooops, Baby M just woke up… Recipe will be posted during his next nap!
